Missing teenager's death remains a mystery
By Gina Childress | Times Staff Writer
Ronnie Demorris Barnes Jr. would have celebrated his 24th birthday this year.
But, on April 30, 2006, just a little more than a month after he was reported missing, Barnes’ remains were discovered near an abandoned warehouse behind the Wilson Habitat Store in the 399 block of East Barnes Street.
Officials said two children riding their bicycles near the abandoned warehouse made the discovery.
Investigators could not immediately pinpoint Barnes’ cause of death due to the condition of his body. Authorities said his remains were badly decomposed when discovered.
After the medical examiner conducted an autopsy, Barnes’ death was ruled a homicide but no final determination as to the cause of death was ever made.
Barnes, 19, lived at 304 N. Reid St. before his death.
Officials encourage anyone who has information concerning the death of Ronnie Demorris Barnes Jr., to call Detective Eric Kearney at 234-7567 or Detective M. McKenzie at 399-2337, or leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 243-2255. In order to be eligible for any potential reward, callers will have to identify themselves.
