Police still hope for leads in shooting four years ago

Anthony Deandre Jones was sitting outside of his apartment four years ago when he was shot and killed.

Jones, then 38, lived at 1700 Birchwood Drive and was shot to death on May 12, 2007, around 3:03 p.m.

Police haven’t been able to make an arrest in the murder but are still actively investigating the shooting.

Wilson Police Detective Eric Kearney said one of the things that has hampered the investigation is the lack of cooperation from witnesses.

"There were a lot of people outside at the time of the shooting,” said Kearney. "This is why it is so important for people to get involved and tell us what they know.”

According to the investigation report, an unknown assailant came out from between a duplex shooting. One of the shots struck Jones, killing him.

"We don’t even know if he was the intended target,” Kearney said. "We really need more cooperation from the public and from anyone that was there that day.”

The man that emerged from between the apartments shooting was described as a black male that was wearing a long red shirt. He was last seen running toward Stantonsburg Road.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Wilson Police Department at 399-2323 or CrimeStoppers at 243-2255. Anyone contacting CrimeStoppers doesn’t have to identify himself or herself. However, in order to be eligible for any potential reward, the caller will have to make their identity known.
