Gladys Cobb celebrates 100th birthday Aug. 9


Gladys Sparrow Cobb, who lives at Parkwood Village in Wilson, turned 100 years old on Aug. 9.

A party was held in her honor Aug. 11 in the fellowship hall of Battleboro United Methodist Church where Mrs. Cobb is the oldest living member. More than 100 relatives and friends attended the celebration.

Mrs. Cobb went to Kinston High School. She married Alton Parks Cobb, former general manager of N.C. Braswell Farms and mayor of Battleboro for 16 years. He is deceased.

Mrs. Cobb’s last job was with Peoples Bank in Battleboro and Rocky Mount.

Mrs. Cobb has two children, Judith Cobb Mehle of Rocky Mount and Alton Parks Cobb, Jr. of Seven Lakes. She has three grandchildren, Paul Joseph Mehle of Zebulon, Carole Marie Mehle of Rocky Mount and Anna Wicker Lascelles of London, England, and one great grandchild, Matthew Mehle of Zebulon. She enjoys playing bridge and visits from friends and family. She continues to be a member of the Battleboro United Methodist Church.

She was born Aug. 9, 1912, in Kinston.
