Whitney Lane Murray of Asheville is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Douglas E. Murray of Wilson who announce her engagement to James "Jay" Augustus Lanier III of Asheville. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Lanier Jr. of Marietta, Ga. The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. Louise Parrish Murray of Raleigh and Mrs. Nancy Armstrong Lane of Wilson. The groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Anderson of Atlanta and Mr. and Mrs. James A. Lanier II of Miami. A March 27 wedding is planned in Memorial Chapel at Lake Junaluska.
