Kathryn Deane Gibbons and William Witt Putney III, both of Chapel Hill, exchanged wedding vows Saturday in a 5:30 p.m. ceremony at First United Methodist Church in Wilson. The Rev. Dr. William Michael Presnell officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Miller Walton Gibbons of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William David Phillips of Laurinburg and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Hardy Gibbons of Wilson. She graduated from Fike High School and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She recently received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. She will begin practicing dentistry this summer. She made her debut at the N.C. Debutante Ball in 2005.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Witt Putney II of Elm City. He is the grandson of Peggy Brannon Pearson of Wilson and the late Robert Hugh Pearson and the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert Hubbard Putney Jr. of Elm City. He graduated from Fike High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a real estate appraiser for Orange County.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore her mother’s veil to complement her wedding gown.
Matron of honor was Kelly Smith Gibbons of Wilson, sister-in-law of the bride.
Bridesmaids were Katherine Graham Bennett of Raleigh, Grace Rousseau Northington of Raleigh, Shippey Elizabeth Lewallen of New York City, Sarah Elizabeth Skinner of Raleigh, Mary-Katherine Bane Walston of Raleigh and Sydney Blair Williford of WIlson.
Junior bridesmaid was Holland Wright Putney of Wilmington, cousin of the groom.
Flower girls were Caroline Mattie Faile of Charlotte and Lillian Baker Putney of Wilmington both cousins of the groom.
Best man was the groom’s father.
Groomsmen were Benjamin Smith Bullock of Boone; James Jeffrey Brown of Plymouth, Minn.; Conley Ward Davis of Elizabeth City; David Phillips Gibbons of Wilmington, brother of the bride; Miller Walton Gibbons Jr. of Wilson, brother of the bride; Brewer Malachi Womble Heath of Nashville, Tenn.; Ralph Griffin Kennedy of Raleigh; Charles Roy Pruden IV of Edenton; and Kenneth Jordan Smith of Raleigh.
Scripture reader was Elizabeth Shanley Lestini of Raleigh.
Register attendants were Meghan Rogers Wagstaff of Chapel Hill and Hallie Moore Sessoms of Raleigh.
Program attendants were Margaret Grace Phillips of Ocean Isle Beach and Susan Walton Williams of Greenville, S.C., cousins of the bride.
Wedding directors were Mrs. Dred Stuart Walston, Jr. and Mrs. Charles Roy Pruden Jr.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride hosted by her parents.
On the eve of the wedding, the rehearsal dinner was held at the home of the groom hosted by his parents.
A bridesmaids’ luncheon was given by the friends of the bride and groom the day before the ceremony.
A bridal brunch was hosted by friends of the couple on the day of the wedding.
Following a honeymoon in Europe, the couple will make their home in Chapel Hill.
• Nov. 3: An engagement party given by friends of the couple at the Crunkleton in Chapel Hill.
• March 23: An oyster roast was given by the groom’s family in Wilson.
• May 5: A Kentucky Derby party was given by family friends in Wilson.
