Atkinson-Barnes

Laura Ann Barnes of Lucama and Anthony Atkinson Jr. of Wilson were married Nov. 16 in a 4 p.m. ceremony at Forest Hills Baptist Church. Anthony Atkinson Sr. officiated.

The bride is the daughter of John Garry Barnes of Elm City and Sherlyn Jones Fields of Micro. She is the granddaughter of the late Brantley and Eula Lee Barnes and the late Earl Lee and Dorothy Jones. She graduated from Beddingfield High School and Capella University with a master’s degree in counseling studies.

The groom is the son of Vivian and Anthony Atkinson Sr. of Wilson and the grandson of Eddie and Flora Smith of Stantonsburg and Laura Atkinson of Stantonsburg and the late George Atkinson. He graduated from Greenfield School and attended Barton College. He plays for the Harlem Globetrotters.

The bride was escorted by her father. Maid of honor was Tracey Norris. Bridesmaids were Amy Wall, Amanda Allen and Annette Barnes, sisters of the bride; and Marsha Barnett. Flower girls were Rachel Wall, niece of the bride, and Nia McCoy.

Best man was Jermaine Atkinson. Groomsmen were Aaron Suggs, Quentin Suggs, Errol Frails and Rob Salter. Ring bearer was Trey Atkinson, son of the bride and groom.

A reception followed the ceremony at the Hampton Inn and Suites. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was given at Carolina Cheese Company.

Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson took a wedding cruise to Turks and Caicos; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; and Nassau, Bahamas. They live in Wilson.
