Sarah Alston Prince and Benjamin Tyler Winbourne, both of Wilson, exchanged marriage vows March 9 in a 5:30 p.m. ceremony at First Presbyterian Church of Wilson. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Jean Watkins officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Travis Prince of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Dorothy Simpson Southerland of Wilson and the late Joseph Lewis Southerland Jr., and Maria Boone Prince of Wilson and the late Thonie Travis Prince. She graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School and East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and is a kindergarten teacher at Lucama Elementary School.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis R. Winbourne Jr. of Atlantic Beach. He is the grandson of Martha Walker Windham of Wilson and the late William Edgar Windham, and Janyce Glover Winbourne of Wilson and the late Curtis R. Winbourne. He graduated from Hunt High School and East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. He is an associate agent with Donnie Prince Agency Nationwide Insurance.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory silk taffeta, strapless gown fashioned with a sweetheart neckline and a ruched fitted bodice and trumpet skirt flowing into a chapel length train. For her headpiece, she chose a fingertip-length veil accented with lace, crystals and pearls.

She carried a bouquet of white hydrangeas, hand-tied with lace from her mother’s wedding veil.

Maid of honor was Mary Katherine Prince, sister of the bride.

Bridesmaids were Anna Narron Clark of Raleigh; Geri Marie Hare of Washington, D.C.; Elizabeth Blair Myers of Charlotte, cousin of the bride; Heather Nicole Prince of Wilson, cousin of the bride; and Lauren Elizabeth Worthy of Wilson.

Flower girl was Kaitlin Grace Federman of Durham, cousin of the bride.

Best man was the groom’s father.

Groomsmen were Thomas Edward Brown III of Wilson; Matthew Pittman Garrett of Wilson; Davis Manning Hare of Wilson; Albert Royce Nowell III of Raleigh; William Anderson Winbourne of Wilson, brother of the groom; and Brady Scott Windham Jr. of Middlesex, cousin of the groom.

Ushers were John Taylor Barker of Rocky Mount and Michael James Crooke of Raleigh.

Ring bearer was Jackson Dean Curlee of Thomasville, cousin of the groom.

Program attendant was Natalie Christine Walton of Wilson.

Wedding directors were Agnes Hood Cherry and Elizabeth Kirkland Peters.

Wedding music was provided by organist Joan Brownd Gibbs.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Wilson Arts Center, hosted by the bride’s parents.

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted the rehearsal dinner and after-rehearsal party at the Elks Lodge. Earlier that day, a bridesmaids’ luncheon was hosted by Blair Myers and Susan Harris at the home of Susan Harris.

On the day of the wedding, a brunch was held at City Market Cafe hosted by Melody Allegood, Sandy Clark, Nancy Brown and Hannah Davis.

The couple took a honeymoon trip to Rio Grande, Puerto Rica. They are making their home in Wilson.

July 21: An engagement party was hosted by friends of the bride and groom.

Jan. 26: A kitchen shower was hosted by friends of the bride’s family.

Feb. 10: A bridal shower was hosted by the bride’s grandmothers and aunts.

Feb. 13: A surprise bridal shower was hosted by kindergarten teachers at Lucama Elementary.
