Shemkia A. Reid of Wilson and Mark D. Harris of New Orleans were united in marriage July 13 in a 5 p.m. ceremony at The Excellence Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Barbara Reid of Wilson and the granddaughter of the late Marcellus "Pete” and Essie Mae Farmer. She graduated from Fike High School and Barton College with a bachelor’s degree in social work and Clark-Atlanta University with a master’s degree in social work. She is a monitoring specialist with the Department of Human Services of Georgia.

The groom is the son of Geraldine Billups of New Orleans and the grandson of the late Rufus and Margaret Billups of New Orleans. He is a graduate of St. Augustine Catholic School and Southern University of New Orleans, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marines who served in Desert Storm.
