Maggie Louise Hartley of Sims and Chad Evan Mitchell of Mesquite, Texas, were married June 15 in a 3:30 p.m. ceremony at Avenel Plantation in Bedford, Va. Pastor Mark Wilburn officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Herbert and Kimberly Hartley of Sims. She is the granddaughter of Louise Bradbury of Wilson and the late Earl Bradbury and Frances Sharp of Staunton, Va., and the late Edwin Hartley. She graduated from Hunt High School and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in social sciences from Liberty University.

The groom is the son of Charles and Ruth Mitchell of Mesquite and the grandson of Charles Mitchell Sr. and Shirley Mitchell of Midlothian, Texas, and the late William and Catherine Scallorn of Rowlette, Texas. He graduated from Poteet High School and Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science degree in social sciences. He is an admissions evaluator at Liberty.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore a formal ivory gown fashioned with a strapless, basque waist, silk pleated bodice and layered tulle skirt. For her headpiece she chose an ivory waist-length veil.

She carried a bouquet of wildflowers with blush peonies and white lilies. Her grandmother’s brooch was attached to the silk stem wrapping.

Maid of honor was Elizabeth Hartley of Sims, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Rachel Olstroem of Parkville, Md.; Bethany Gray of Atlanta; and Pamela Mitchell and Elizabeth Mitchell of Mesquite, sisters of the groom. They wore knee-length champagne chiffon dresses styled with a sweetheart neckline.

Sydney Bradbury of Sims, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a sleeveless ivory silk taffeta dress with a burlap accent.

Best man was Mark Wilburn Jr. of Dallas, Texas.

Groomsmen were Elliot Miller and Joshua Minnick of Lynchburg, Grant Hall of Los Angeles and Ryan Wheeler of Conway, S.C.

Wedding music was presented by Taylor Holder of Lynchburg, vocalist and instrumentalist.

Register attendants were Charles Shellings of Chincoteague, Va., and Ryan Montalvo of Metuchen, N.J.

A reception at Avenel Plantation followed the ceremony. Hosts were the bride’s parents.

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents were hosts for a rehearsal dinner at Avenel.

Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell have returned from a wedding trip to the Bahamas and are living in Lynchburg.

 

Pre-nuptial events

April 13: A wedding shower was given in Mesquite by the groom’s mother and sisters at Northside Baptist Church.

May 18: A wedding shower was given at the home of Beverly Blease of Wilson. Other hostesses were Janet Nichols; Sharon Bradbury and Traci Bradbury, aunts of the bride; and the bride’s sister.
