Gardner Grey Kirkland and Daniel David Orr of Raleigh were united in marriage Saturday in a 5:30 p.m. ceremony at First United Methodist Church in Wilson. The Rev. Robert E. Bergland and the Rev. Charles J. Robl officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Kirkland III of Wilson. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Donald Alvin Pardo and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Kirkland Jr., all of Wilson. A graduate of Greenfield School she graduated magna cum laude from Meredith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and K-6 licensure. She was presented by the Terpsichorean Club at the North Carolina Debutante Ball in 2004. She is a consultant relationship coordinator with The Select Group.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Marshall Orr of Lynchburg, Va., and the grandson of Mrs. George Russell Davis of Lynchburg and the late Mr. Davis, and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Jennings Orr of Ridgeland, Miss. He graduated from Yorktown High School in Arlington and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts degree of Arts and Sciences in psychology. He works with Custom Mail Solutions.

The bride was escorted by her father.

Matron of honor was Ashley Sims Kirkland of Williamsburg, Va., sister-in-law of the bride. Bridesmaids were Eliza Eborn Bridgers of Raleigh; Anna Jane Franklin of Raleigh, cousin of the bride; Lindsay Orr Mutchler of Falls Church, Va., sister of the groom; Kathryn Mullen Noblitt of Raleigh; Brooke Elizabeth Orr of Lynchburg, sister of the groom; Elizabeth Paxton Peters of Raleigh, cousin of the bride; Sara Battle Peters of Athens, Ga., cousin of the bride; Mary Riddick Stallworth of Atlanta; Mary Eleanor Tucker of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Jenna Elizabeth Webb of Raleigh.

Best man was the groom’s father.

Groomsmen were Brandon Charles Augustine of Arlington; Jesse Orr Battle of Clermont, Ga.; Benjamin Peers Davis of Raleigh, cousin of the groom; Paul Michael Gibson of Newbury, Mass.; Robert Edward Kirkland IV of Williamsburg, brother of the bride; Thomas Anderson Kirkland of Raleigh, brother of the bride; Daniel Amir Kouhestani of Peabody, Mass.; Robert Jason Mutchler of Falls Church; and Thomas Robert Safranek of Death Valley, Calif.

Wedding music was presented by Jennifer Hudson Gay, organist; Dee Braxton-Pellegrino, violinist; and Dr. William Butts Boles Jr., trumpeter.

Program attendants were Anne Courtney Siceloff of Raleigh and Liza Adrienne Davis of Fredericksburg, Va.

Directors were Martha Lane Camp and Starlette Thomas Walston.

A reception at the Whirligig Conservation Headquarters followed the ceremony. Hosts were the bride’s parents.

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents were hosts for a rehearsal dinner at the Wilson Country Club. After the dinner, a rehearsal party was given by friends and family of the bride at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Royce Nowell Jr. Earlier in the day, a bridesmaids’ luncheon was given by friends and family at the home of Mrs. Thomas J. Purinai.

After their return from a wedding trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, the couple will live in Raleigh.


Pre-Nuptial Events

An engagement party was given by friends and family at Bickett Street Market in Raleigh.

A bachelorette weekend was held in Manteo in August.
