Ellen Susan Crowell of Salisbury and Stuart Justin Poland of Elm City exchanged marriage vows Sept. 24 in a 4 p.m. ceremony at Fairmont United Methodist Church in Raleigh. The Rev. Timothy Catlett officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Lowrance Crowell III, of Salisbury. She is the granddaughter of Vanda Crowell of Salisbury, the late Jim Crowell of Salisbury and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gaither Shaw of Sumter, S.C. She graduated from West Rowan High School and North Carolina State University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communication and Sociology and is a doctoral student in audiology at East Carolina University.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Brice Sylvester Poland Jr. of Elm City. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Poland of Elm City and Mrs. Beatrice Johnson, the late Mr. George Johnson and the late Mrs. Rachel Johnson all of Goldsboro. He graduated from Southern Nash High School and North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology with a concentration in Marine Science. He is a graphic designer for Teleflex in Durham.
The bride was escorted by her father.
Maid of honor was Elizabeth Crowell of Apex, sister of the bride.
Matron of honor was Emily Weddington of China Grove, sister of the bride.
Bridesmaids were Amy Hardee of Morrisville and Sarah Williamson of Lucama.
Best man was the groom’s father.
Groomsmen were Stephen Poland of Emerald Isle, brother of the groom; Matthew Dawes of Greenville; and Ryan Chambers of Durham.
Ushers were Kurt Weddington of China Grove and Frank Genetti of Raleigh.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at The State Club in Raleigh.
On the eve of the wedding, the rehearsal dinner was held at Scotts Mill Clubhouse in Apex.
The couple took a honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas and now reside in Elm City.
