Fatal Crash in Nash County

BAILEY — A 22-year-old Pikeville man lost his life in a fatal crash early Saturday morning.

N.C. Highway Patrol officials in Raleigh said Jorge Delgado Marquez of Antioch Road, Pikeville died at the scene of the crash.

The N.C. Highway Patrol report indicates Marquez was operating a 2001 Burgundy Ford Explorer eastbound on U.S. 264 on U.S. 264 about 3 miles east of Bailey, when he ran off the roadway to the right hitting a tree.

Officials said the Explorer was traveling at a high rate of speed when Marquez lost control. There was no estimated speed of travel available.

Officials said there was a passenger in the vehicle with Marquez. The unidentified victim was transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital. No further information about the passenger was released by Highway Patrol Officials.
