Friday, February 03, 2012 10:47 PM Man burned, flown to trauma center By Stephanie Creech | Times Managing Editor An unidentified man was severely burned Friday night as a result of a small outside fire that happened at 1012 Black Creek Road. The man received what Jim Miller, battalion commander for Wilson Fire/Rescue Services, described as “probably third-degree burns over about 50 percent of his body.” EMS crews transported the man to Wilson Medical Center where he was immediately flown to a trauma center. Miller said what they know at this point is it was a very small outside fire and it appears that the “fire spread to the victim or the victim was standing in the fire.” The fire occurred in the driveway at the residence. “It was on the ground,” Miller said. “We don’t know what was burning other than it appeared to be his clothing.” The call was dispatched to Wilson Fire/Rescue Services around 7:36 p.m. Miller said he doesn’t know who called in the fire because the victim was the only person at the residence when they arrived on the scene. Miller said the victim gave them what little information they have. Miller said firefighters locked up the residence before they left. The fire is still under investigation. “Our investigation couldn’t determine what was being burned,” Miller said. “Obviously, we didn’t get much information from him. There were no witnesses. We didn’t get a lot of information from the victim because of the condition he was in. We have a lot of unanswered questions on our end.” |
