Election 2008

Perdue, Smith the choice of Wilson voters in the governor primaries

Lt. Gov. Bev Perdue eked out a narrow victory in Wilson County on her way to capturing the Democratic nomination for governor Tuesday night.

Perdue captured 50 percent of the Wilson County voters, while her main rival, State Treasurer Richard Moore, got 47 percent of the vote.

On the Republican side, Wilson voters favored State Sen. Fred Smith over Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory by a 44 percent to 36 percent margin.

McCrory captured the Republican nomination for governor, however.
