By Corey Friedman | Times Online Editor
Authorities are still looking for the killer of a former Fremont man fatally shot last month in Newark, N.J.
Prosecutors said 21-year-old Al’Tariq Kornegay was shot Dec. 21 on the 200 block of Avon Avenue in Newark. Kornegay lived at 145 Sunset Ave., about 3 miles from the street where he was killed.
"Right now, it’s an open case,” Anthony Ambrose, chief of detectives at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, said Friday. "We’re following up on active leads.”
Ambrose said Kornegay was shot multiple times. His killing followed the shooting death of an 18-year-old in a fight after a party in Newark the same day.
Kornegay is a former Fremont resident, according to his obituary. He was born May 18, 1992 to Tony and Taeisha Kornegay-Green.
Family visitation was held Friday at the Haskins Funeral Home in Goldsboro followed by burial in Fremont Cemetery.
