GOLDSBORO — Sheriff’s deputies have charged a Wayne County man with breaking into a firehouse and stealing goods inside.

Michael Jerome Jarman Jr., 29, of 253 Grantham School Road outside Goldsboro, was arrested Monday. Deputies say Jarman broke into the Grantham Volunteer Fire Department on Sept. 29.

Jarman sold the goods he stole from the firehouse, Maj. Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said, and the buyer returned the stolen goods to deputies investigating the theft.

Founded in 1959, the 36-member Grantham Volunteer Fire Department serves the Grantham community in southwestern Wayne County. The firehouse is located at 3430 U.S. 13 South outside Goldsboro.

Deputies charged Jarman with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods. He was booked into the Wayne County Jail under a $4,000 secured bond.
