MIDDLESEX — A drive-by shooting claimed a woman’s life inside her Nash County home Thursday night.
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the killing of 41-year-old Portia Hinnant on Old Middlesex Road outside the town of Middlesex. Investigators had no suspects late Thursday, Nash County sheriff’s Capt. Pat Joyner said.
Deputies say someone shot and killed Hinnant from a passing car. Witnesses weren’t able to offer a description of the vehicle.
"None of the neighbors saw anything,” Joyner said. "All they heard were some gunshots.”
Hinnant was inside the home with two other people, who were not injured in the shooting, Joyner said. Paramedics tried to revive Hinnant, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
It remained unclear Friday whether Hinnant was the shooter’s intended target.
"I don’t believe she is, but I don’t know,” Joyner said.
Deputies ask anyone with information in the case to call the Nash County Sheriff’s Office at 459-4121.
