Man charged with murder in fatal shooting

Police charged a man Wednesday with shooting and killing a Raleigh man in a car parked at a Wilson apartment building late last month.

Darrion Devon Williams, 27, of River Run Road outside Rocky Mount, is accused of shooting and killing 29-year-old Ronnie Earl Griffin Jr. during an Oct. 24 robbery attempt.

Detectives charged Williams with first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, police spokesman Sgt. John Slaughter said in a Wednesday news release.

Police found Griffin’s body in a car at 1901 Lipscomb Road shortly before 10 a.m. Oct. 24 after Beacon Pointe Apartments residents reported gunshots.

Griffin, who lived at Old Coach Road in Raleigh, was the second man killed in Wilson over a two-day span. His killing was the city’s fifth homicide of 2012.

Police said the Beacon Pointe slaying is still under investigation.

Williams was booked into the Wilson County Jail without bond and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday.

Is this the black male, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, riding a black bike they were searching for? He rode that back all the way back to Rocky Mount?
