Police: Have you seen this robber?

Police are seeking the public’s help to identify the man who robbed a Wilson convenience store last week.

The Wilson Police Department has released surveillance images from the Stop and Save robbery Jan. 9. Police said a man robbed the store at gunpoint and fired a warning shot into the ceiling before taking an undisclosed amount of cash.

Andy Taylor, who works in the Stop and Save’s kitchen, said he mistook the gunshot for the clatter of a fallen frying pan. When he realized nothing had dropped in the kitchen, he walked toward the store’s front counter and came face-to-face with the robber.

"That’s when he threw the gun up in my face,” Taylor said. "I’ll tell you the exact words he said: ‘Open the damned cash register.’”

Taylor said his co-worker opened the cash drawer for the man.

The convenience store and grill at 837 Goldsboro St. S. was robbed just after 4 p.m. Jan. 9. Officers interviewed employees and customers and combed the scene for evidence.

Police describe the robber as a black man wearing black clothing and a white mask over his face. Surveillance photos show the masked robber taking money from the cash register.

No arrests in the robbery had been made Thursday. Anyone with information on the robber’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call Wilson police at 399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 243-2255.

Saw Him Again Last Night said...

I think I thought I saw this guy walking down the middle of Nash St. around the 1700 block last night in his dark clothes and with his hood over his head. But then, it could have been any of the ones I see like this on that road at night. I pity the driver who hits one of them. They'll be sued for sure. When I was growing up, I was taught not to walk in the road, people said it was dangerous.
