You can still see the debate as it happens. The City of Wilson's Greenlight cable service will televise the debate live. The Wilson Times is sponsoring the Oct. 12 debate between Calvin Woodard, the Democratic nominee, and John Farmer, the unaffiliated candidate. The Times is partnering with Greenlight so more residents can see the 7 p.m. debate. A city official said the logistics of airing the debate are being worked out. "Clearly there are a lot of people who want to see the debate but do not have tickets," said Dathan Shows, assistant city manager for broadband and technical services. "Since Greenlight is already serving our schools, we can broadcast the debate over our fiber optic network. It's just another benefit of having a local system. We are pleased to assist The Wilson Times with this important event." Both candidates said they are happy about the debate being televised. "Good, good," Farmer said Friday afternoon when he heard Greenlight would carry the debate live. "I think it is great the people of Wilson will have the ability to see the debate. That is fantastic." Woodard agrees.
Jon Jimison, Wilson Times editor, said his phone has been ringing off the hook since the debate at Fike High School was announced. Fike holds a little more than 900 people. With the tickets snapped up on the first day of availability, televising the debate was what Jimison wanted. "We're very happy the city and Greenlight are partnering with us on this event," Jimison said. "By having the debate aired on Greenlight it exponentially increases access to the debate so more residents can see it for themselves." More details will be announced as plans progress. janet@wilsontimes.com | 265-7847 ![]() |

I don't care what's said at the debate, I'm voting Woodard so it really doesn't matter. If you look at past presidential debates, people think THEIR candidate won --- no matter how he/she does.

I heard John Farmer speak at his rally last week. I was very impressed. He has worked very hard in preparing himself to be our sheriff. Farmer's 100 day plan shows that he will be an outstanding sheriff. John Farmer stands for all of the people of Wilson County. He has my support.

Smart move on Grenlight's part. This should increase local demand for your service. Maybe you could air some other local events on Greenlight. Local high school football would probably draw a lot of local customers to your service. This would carve out a real niche for your business and put you heads and shoulders above your cable TV competitors.

I think some people will complain about the sun rising in the morning. You complained about paying for tickets, the paper picks up the sponsorship. Then you complained about not getting a FREE ticket. The paper stated it would be available to be seen afterward on their website and now Greenlight offered to broadcast it live. And now the response...COMPLAINTS. Thank you Wilson Times and Greenlight for your assistance in bringing the debate to a larger audience. Now, most everyone can watch and decide whether Mr. Farmer or Mr. Woodard is the best person to become OUR next Sheriff.
