Fatality reported By Eddie Fitzgerald | Staff Writer A man was killed early this morning after his vehicle ran off of U.S. 264 near Wilson. According to Wilson police, the man was traveling east on U.S. 264 in a 2009 Toyota at about 4:20 a.m. when he ran off the road near the interchange with Raleigh Road Parkway. After apparently trying to correct his vehicle, his vehicle continued under the bridge and ran off the road into a dirt embankment. Wilson Police Officer B. Baker, who was measuring the skid marks that stretched for more than 100 feet under the bridge, said the man was thrown from the Toyota after crossing the highway and was killed. The man has not been identified pending notification of his relatives, Baker said. Police shut down traffic on U.S. 264 by the interchange for about 30 minutes after arriving on the scene. Traffic was limited to one lane or detoured around the Sims interchange after the vehicle was removed from the wreck scene.
