Fike student plans Field Day By Stephanie Creech | Staff Writer Fike High School Senior Kevin Smith is holding a UNICEF Action for Africa Field Day on Saturday, May 17, from 3-6 p.m. at the school. The event will feature a variety of activities including a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, 3-legged race and even karaoke. Admission is $2 for ages 12 and above and $1 for ages one to 11. Kevin is required to complete a senior project as part of his Advanced Placement English course. The senior project includes a research paper and a component where students must demonstrate "service above self." UNICEF's Emergency in Sudan program is used to support victims and refugees of the Darfur region of Sudan, which has been plagued with civil war. Money raised by Kevin will be used to help provide food, clothing, shelter, health care, and education to victims and people displaced by the war. Anyone interested in contributing or assisting Kevin with the project may contact him at 252-291-8132.
