Elmo and his Sesame Street friends are getting ready to make music in Raleigh!
Sesame Street Live's "Elmo Makes Music" opens May 29 at the RBC Center for seven shows.
Joining Elmo for this new adventure are Bert and Ernie, Oscar, Zoe, Telly, Baby Bear, Grover, Rosita, Cookie, Count von Count, Big Bird, Prairie Dawn, Roxy Marie, Grundgetta, Honker and Jenny, the enthusiastic new music teacher.
The show centers around Jenny, who arrives on Sesame Street only to discover that her instruments are missing. Her new muppet friends quickly come to her rescue and discover some "instruments" they never knew existed, like rubber duckies, trash can lids and even cookie jars!
It's a high energy show, said Elizabeth Osborn, who plays Elmo.
"It is absolutely incredible every single show," she said.
The show opens with just Bert and Ernie on stage. "Then there is a big reveal," Osborn said. "It's a great high energy moment. The audience is excited to see us and we are excited to see them.
"The kids are so excited. We get excited and it reminds me, 'this is why I get into costume.'"
When interviewed two weeks ago, Osborn and the cast were in Indiana. They started rehearsals in August and will be on tour until the second week of June.
The Sesame Street Live tour comes through Raleigh every year, but this is the first time "Elmo Makes Music" has been featured.
Like television's Sesame Street, each Sesame Street Live production features timeless lessons for all ages. Through the razzle-dazzle of this 90-minute musical Broadway-quality production, children will learn about patience, acceptance and teamwork.
Kids will recognize some of their favorite Sesame Street songs such as "The Hustle," "You Should Be Dancing," and "Rockin' Robin." They can even sing and dance along to classics like "C is for Cookie," and "The Alphabet Song."
There is some adult humor to be enjoyed too, Osborn said, like Bert in his leisure suit.
Opening night is May 29 at 7 p.m. All tickets are $12, only for that performance, except for $30 Gold Circle seats.
There are two shows May 30, at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. May 31 shows are at 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. There is one show on June 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets for these shows are $12, $17 and $22. A limited number of $30 Gold Circle seats are also available.
