The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has designated the Wilson Housing Authority as a high-performing agency following an annual evaluation of the public housing agency.
HUD checked the Wilson Housing Authority's performance in four areas, including its physical environment, finances, management and residential services. The WHA scored a 93 out of 100 possible points for the 2007 calendar year.
The WHA scored 24 out of 30 points for its physical environment, 30 out of 30 for financial management, 30 out of 30 for management and 9 out of 10 for residential services.
The residential services score was based on how residents rated the Wilson Housing Authority's services and its staff.
The overall score is one of the highest the WHA has received to date, said Executive Director Edward Jagnandan.
"This is a great thing for the housing authority," Jagnandan said. "It motivates the employees to do better next time, and I'm extremely proud of what we are doing here."
The score will also allow the WHA to receive more capital funds from HUD. Jagnandan did not know how much additional funding the agency would receive at this time.
"We were qualified to get a bonus in our capital funds," Jagnandan said.
