Voters said no to any tax increase

I just read with great delight Ted Rhodes Jr.'s letter to the editor in this morning's WDT (5/10/08). I must say that I agree with most everything Mr. Rhodes said with one exception. He stated that Frank Emory either just doesn't understand or just doesn't know how to listen to his constituents anymore.

I say it's neither one of those two things. The problem with Frank Emory is that he seems to have forgotten who he works for. Maybe that is something that happens to people who have held any office for too long. They start thinking that they know what is best so there's no need to listen to "us." You do know who "us" is, don't you Frank? That's right, the people who put you where you are now and the ones that can remove you just as easily. And, the ones who just voted overwhelmingly against the sales tax increase.

I also voted no to the sales tax increase this time and will to any future tax increase until I see some spending restraint on the part of those county commissioners who don't seem to know what that is. And, no, Mr. Emory, voting no last Tuesday to the sales tax increase didn't mean we are more receptive to a property tax increase. It meant just what it said. Lose you arrogance and make do with what you have just like we have to do or I'll be right in line with Mr. Rhodes in voting you out next time.
