Racing tonight at County Line ELM CITY -- The fast and powerful Late Model racers return to County Line Raceway tonight to highlight a grid of six features. Main events are also scheduled in Pure Stock Four-Cylinder, Pure Stock V-8, Cadet, Thunder & Lightning and Super Stock Four-Cylinder. Victorious in regular features the previous Saturday evening were Zebulon's Victor May in Super Stock Four-Cylinder, Wilson's Gary Dillon in Pure Stock Four-Cylinder, Chris Ray of Zebulon in Thunder & Lightning, Gary Whitley of Stantonsburg in Pure Stock V-8, and Joshua Bryant of Wilson in Cadet (ages 15 and under). Repeat visitors to Victory Lane were Dillon and Bryant. The Virginia Sprint Series appeared at the 3/8-mile clay oval for the first time in 2008, and Eric Keck charged to the checkered flag. In Super Stock Four-Cylinder, May's No. 35 Toyota led all 20 laps in notching back-to-back wins. May also won the heat race. Saratoga's Wayne Potter drove to a runner-up finish in his No. 1 Mustang. Bill Winstead of Bailey took third. Despite a mid-race pit stop, Scott Baines salvaged fourth, and Nathan Cole rounded out the top five. Dillon collected his second 2008 top finish in his No. 82 Toyota. He and Junior Johnson claimed the qualifying races. Ray, in Thunder & Lightning, made a pass with two laps to go to claim the point for keeps. His No. 5 Monte Carlo had been denied on numerous occasions by race leader Britches Liles. Ray celebrated his first win in nearly a year. Bailey's Liles hung onto second place in his L2 Camaro despite a deflated right front tire. Mark McDaniels charged from the rear to third. Elm City's Alan Worrells and Rocky Mount's Wade Ferrell completed the top five, respectively. Starting on the front row in Pure Stock V-8, Whitley, in the No. 21 Monte Carlo, assumed the early lead and hung on. A late-race pass enabled Snow Hill's Jerry Williams to claim second in his No. 44 Cutlass. Ben James of Battleboro settled for third, followed by Michael Lamm of Battleboro in fourth and David Sauls of Snow Hill in fifth. Onlookers were treated to a Cadet duel between Bryant and Elm City's Austin Holcombe. Bryant, in the No. 24 Nissan, utilized a strong restart to seize the lead and held off several challenges from Holcombe's No. 8 Mustang. Stillman Heath of Wilson was third. In the Virginia Sprint dash, Keck and French Grimes advanced from last-row starting positions to battle for the lead. The F1 racer of Grimes charged in the final turn, but Keck's No. 42 ride seized the 25-lap event by approximately a foot. Jerald Harris overtook veteran Satch Worley for fourth. Billy Norfleet surged into the fifth spot on the final lap. Bill Rice and Mike Marr won the heat races.
