Mudcats pull off comeback win 9-7 against Chattanooga
ZEBULON -- The Double-A professional Carolina Mudcats pulled out of a six-run hole to beat the Chattanooga Lookouts, 9-7, on Monday night in Five County Stadium.
The Mudcats (22-16) scored eight runs in two innings against the Lookouts' (19-19) bullpen to storm to a two games to one series lead.
Trailing 6-1 in the seventh, Kris Harvey began the rally with his first Double-A homer, then one out later the Mudcats strung three straight hits together from John Raynor, Cameron Maybin and Chris Coghlan to make it a 6-3 game.
Gaby Sanchez followed with a drive to the left field warning track, but Cody Straight made a jumping catch, but the sacrifice fly scored Maybin to pull within 6-4.
After a pitching change and two walks to load the bases, Alberto Concepcion hit a hard chopper off of Tonys Gutierrez's glove at first base for a two-run single to tie the score.
The Lookouts regained the lead 7-6 with a run in the eighth against Matt Yourkin, who earned his first win of the season, but Carolina scored three times in the bottom half thanks to a two-run triple to center by Coghlan.
Chris Mobley, who blew a save on Sunday, retired the side in order in the ninth for his second save.
Starting pitcher Aaron Thompson tossed five innings, allowing 10 hits and six runs for the Mudcats, while Lookouts starter Daryl Thompson worked six innings, permitting four hits and one unearned run.
