WCA falls in softball semis

The Wilson Christian varsity softball team fell to Wilmington Christian, 7-1, Friday night in the N.C. Christian School Association 3-A playoffs at Wilson Christian.

Wilmington scored three runs in the second inning to take the lead and never let up offensively, pounding out 18 hits for the game.

Wilson Christian never got in gear at the plate, scoring its only run in the sixth when Kaywin Barnes tripled to drive in Kayla Mercer.

Sara Lippard pitched all seven innings and struck out six.

The Lady Chargers will face Raleigh Christian at 10 this morning in the consolation game. Wake Christian defeated Raleigh in Friday night's other semifinal.

Raleigh narrowly won both games against the Lady Chargers this season and WCA head coach Desiree Brewer expects another tight matchup.

"It will be two really good pitchers and some good defenses playing," she said. "Hopefully we can have some good bats going."
