WCS takes action against Hunt coach

Wilson County Schools officials have concluded their investigation into the incident involving Hunt head football coach Randy Raper during Saturday's girls soccer state playoff match.

"The investigation ended Monday and appropriate action was taken Tuesday," said Bob Kendall, spokesman for Wilson County Schools.

As of today, Kendall said, Raper's directory status as physical education teacher and head football coach at Hunt High were unchanged.

The school system is allowed under North Carolina law to not disclose disciplinary action against its employees and has not released the report.

During Saturday's home game against Gray's Creek, Raper ran onto the field after two opposing players, one of whom was his daughter, were involved in a fight.

Raper knocked the Gray's Creek player down and later stated it was unintentional, according to the Wilson County sheriff's report.

Neither player was injured, and no charges were filed against Raper.

NCHSAA officials have said game officials are supposed to intervene in on-field fights, while coaches are supposed to keep their players off the field.

The NCHSAA, after receiving reports from both schools, will also investigate the incident and decide whether to take any additional action.

The officials for Saturday's game were head referee Ken Rudder and linesmen Paul LoRusso and Steve Fulks.

They were assigned by the Triangle Referee Association.
