Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Talen Piner
Fike High senior Talen Piner won the boys race at the Wilson County Cross-Country Championships on Monday, making his this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Talen ran the course at Gillette Athletic Complex in 18 minutes flat but it wasn’t as fast as the 17:41 he ran at the Jungle Run in Hope Mills in September.
Talen carries a 4.6 weighted grade point average at Fike, where he is involved in a multitude of extracurricular activities. Besides running for the Golden Demons indoor and outdoor track teams, Talen serves as president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and treasurer of the Fike chorus. In addition, he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Club and Men’s Interact Organization, a Kiwanis Club-sponsored service club he co-chartered this year with classmates Lee Holmes and Hayden Vick.
He also serves on the Wilson County Teen Court.
The son of Rose and Tad Piner of Wilson, Talen also is active at Forest Hills Baptist Church and in the Wilson Arts Council’s ACT! for Youth, for which he participated in more than 25 productions.
