Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Ian West
Fike High sophomore Ian West soared to new heights last week, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Competing in the prestigious New Balance Indoor Nationals track and field meet in New York City, Ian pole vaulted a personal-best 14 feet, 9.5 inches on his second attempt to set a new school record. He finished third in the Emerging Elite division and 19th overall.
The defending state 3-A champion in the pole vault, Ian enjoyed a standout season for the Golden Demons varsity football team last fall.
The son of Debra and Sonny West of Wilson, Ian has a weighted grade point average of 4.667. He is in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) clubs and is also the sergeant-at-arms for Student Government Association.
He is also part of an effort to establish a new club, Men’s Interactive Organization, at Fike and he served as a Senate page in the N.C. General Assembly last month.
Ian has volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels and the United Way of Wilson County. He and his family attend Church of St. Therese in Wilson.
