Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Sophia Carter
Sophia Carter was a central figure in the Fike High varsity girls soccer team’s two big wins last week, making her this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Sophia, a senior defender, had the match’s two biggest goals in the Lady Demons’ thrilling 5-4 overtime win at archrival Hunt on Wednesday. She punched in a free kick with 19 minutes to play in regulation to tie the score at 4-4 then drilled in another free kick with just seconds remaining in the final overtime to give Fike a 5-4 win.
The next night, Sophia and her fellow eight seniors celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 defeat of Northern Nash.
Sophia has a 4.2 grade point average at Fike where she is a member of National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. She was also on the girls tennis and swimming teams.
The daughter of Sherri and Clint Carter of Wilson, she has contributed her time volunteering at The Brittany each year.
Sophia will play in the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game in girls soccer this summer. She plans to attend East Carolina University where she will major in biology.
