Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Hannah Whitley
Sophomore Hannah Whitley helped her Hunt High varsity volleyball team overcome strong odds in winning its second straight 3-A Big East Conference tournament championship last week, making her this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Hannah, an outside hitter, pounded 14 kills, made six blocks and had 13 service points as the Lady Warriors did what no Big East team could do all season in beating regular-season champion Fike in five games in the tourney final. It was the only loss to a conference team all season for the Lady Demons.
Hunt defeated Northern Nash in four games Tuesday to reach the Big East final and was swept by Chapel Hill in Saturday’s state 3-A playoff opener. For the week, Hannah had 22 kills, nine blocks and 22 service points.
Hannah, who also swims and plays soccer at Hunt, has weighted grade point average of 4.0. She is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Club UNIFY, Headbands of Hope and Student Booster Club.
The daughter of Tammy and Graham Whitley of Kenly, Hannah also plays for the Wilson Youth Soccer Association ‘98 Explosion and for Shockwave travel volleyball team of Wilson.
