Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Tevin Boykin

Senior point guard Tevin Boykin’s intense defense helped carry his Southern Nash High varsity boys basketball team to a pair of wins in last week’s 3-A Big East Conference tournament, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

After the Firebirds dispatched Northern Nash in the first round, they found themselves in a deep hole against Nash Central in the semifinals. But Boykin ignited a second-half defensive surge that carried Southern Nash to a 60-55 overtime win and into the finals against Rocky Mount, which ended the Firebirds run.

The son of Betsy Battle of Bailey and Terry Boykin of Wilson, Tevin has a 3.3 grade point average at Southern Nash, where he belongs to the Beta Club, DECA Club and Monogram Club. He also plays baseball for the Firebirds.

Tevin is active at Union View Free Will Baptist Church in Bailey.

He will attend Methodist University on an academic scholarship and plans to major in sports management.
