Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Tara Simmons

The N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A girls golf championship was twice as nice for Charles B. Aycock High senior Tara Simmons last week, making her this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Tara fired consecutive rounds of 77 Monday and Tuesday at Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Southern Pines to repeat as the state 3-A individual champion.

Tara entered this year ranked No. 1 in her class at Aycock, where she holds a 4.92 weighted grade point average. She is president of the National Honor Society at CBA, where she also runs indoor and outdoor track.

The daughter of Mary and Wallace Simmons of Goldsboro, Tara is active in Wayne County 4-H, serving as the county council president.

Tara will continue her golf career at Dartmouth College, where she will study environmental engineering. She is believed to be the first CBA student-athlete to sign with an Ivy League school.
