Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Maya Evans


Maya Evans splashed into national prominence as a member of Fike High’s girls winter track team last week, making her this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Maya won the 500-meter dash with a time of 1 minutes, 15.6 seconds at the Rocky Mount Polar Bear Meet at Rocky Mount on Saturday, Dec. 8. That time is ranked first in the nation by milesplit.com and her winning 300 dash time of 41.9 seconds is tops in the state.

Maya holds a 4.5 weighted grade point average and is ranked in the top 10 percent of the senior class at Fike, where she takes International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses. She is the president of Student Government Association and is a member of National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Club UNIFY, the Culinary Club and the dance team at Fike. Maya is an officer in FCA and Club UNIFY.

Also, she was the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award winner at Fike, where she was the homecoming queen in October.

The daughter of Lisa and Stacey Evans of Wilson, Maya volunteers with Wilson County Schools After School Enrichment Program and Wilson Youth Council and has an internship with Wilson Orthopaedic Surgery.
