Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Garrett Joyner


The hot bat of Garrett Joyner had the Charles B. Aycock High varsity baseball team off to a hot start to the season last week, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Garrett, a junior outfielder, batted a robust .625 (5 for 8) with a pair of triples while scoring five runs and stealing five bases as the Golden Falcons won two of their first three games. He had a two-run triple in Aycock’s season-opening 16-4 romp at Hunt on Tuesday and went 3 for 3 with three stolen bases in a 10-2 triumph over Rosewood on Friday. He collected a hit in the Falcon’s 3-2 loss at Greenville Rose on Saturday.

The son of Lisa and Billy Joyner of Goldsboro, Garrett has a 4.08 grade point average. He is the junior class secretary at Aycock, where he also belongs to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Health Occupation Students of America.

Garrett served as a Governor’s Page in Raleigh in November, where he worked at the N.C. Department of Transportation. He has participated in the Goldsboro Mayor’s Youth Council and works part-time at Carlie C’s IGA grocery store in Goldsboro.

He and his family attend Bethel Church in Goldsboro.
