Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Candace Wilkins

Beddingfield High senior Candace Wilkins was productive down to her final at-bat for the Lady Bruins softball team last week, making her this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

In the Lady Bruins’ 6-4 loss at South Granville in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 2-A playoffs Tuesday, Candace kept their hopes alive with a seventh-inning single to drive in a run. She finished 2 for 4 on the night.

On the season, Candace batted .367 with five doubles while playing nearly every defensive position except pitcher and earning a spot on the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference all-conference team.

At Beddingfield, where she also played tennis, Candace has a 3.26 grade point average and made the Principal’s List in the last grading period. She is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and participates in the Bruins Mentor program.

The daughter of Kimberly and Stephen Wilkins of Fremont, Candace was a starter on two Wilson County Xtreme All-Stars teams that won Babe Ruth Softball 16U World Series championships.

She has worked as a volunteer for Wilson Crisis Center and will attend Wilson Community College to study massage therapy.
