Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Joelle Brown

Junior Joelle Brown’s defense helped her Fike High varsity girls soccer team get off to a good start this season last week, making her this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Joelle dropped back to defender and marked the opponents’ top offensive threat as the Lady Demons tied Wilmington Hoggard 1-1 in Friday’s season opener in the Battle at the Beach tournament in Swansboro as well as Fike’s 4-1 thumping of Jacksonville White Oak on Saturday morning. That was the first win by Fike over White Oak in head coach Toni Varacchi’s 19 seasons.

Joelle maintains a 3.9 unweighted grade point average at Fike, taking honors and International Baccalaureate courses. She is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society and Interact service club at Fike. The daughter of Lorraine and Gasford Brown of Wilson, Joelle has been nominated for membership in National Technical Honor Society as well as Tar Heels Girls State.

Joelle also runs indoor and outdoor track at Fike.

She is a piano student and will participate in the upcoming Piano Olympics. Joelle is active in her youth group at North Ridge Bible Chapel Church in Raleigh, where she engages in a number of volunteer activities.
