Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Thomas Smith

Thomas Smith was a part of Fike High boys tennis history last week, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Thomas and partner Reid Harris won the NCHSAA 3-A East Regional doubles title, becoming the first Golden Demons to achieve that feat in head coach Lee Matthews’ 19 seasons.

Thomas, a senior, played No. 1 singles this year as well. He finished his career 28-25 in singles and 38-28 in doubles. He was twice named all-Big East Conference in tennis. Thomas was on the boys soccer and boys swimming teams at Fike.

The son of Page and Eliot Smith of Wilson, Thomas is ranked No. 2 in his senior class at Fike, where he has a 5.148 weighted grade point average. He is a member of National Honor Society; the vice-president of Science National Honor Society and member of Good Samaritans Club. He and his dad helped start To Save a Life Day at Fike.

Thomas has attained the rank of Eagle Scout at Boy Scout Troop 6 at First United Methodist Church.

He and his family attend St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Wilson, where he volunteers in the soup kitchen every Sunday.

Thomas plans to attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and major in biomedical engineering.
