Thomas & Farris Student-Athlete of the Week: Noel Carrillo
Sophomore Noell Carrillo continued his outstanding season for the Hunt High wrestling team last week, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Student-Athlete of the Week.
Wrestling in the 106-pound division, Noell picked up two wins, one by fall, as host Hunt claimed victories over North Johnston and Farmville Central in a tri-match Tuesday. Then, in the 16-team Pierce-Davis Invitational at North Pitt High on Saturday, Noell won his first two matches before suffering his first loss of the season, 8-6 in overtime to Tarboro’s Steven Barrera.
On the season Noell is 7-1.
The son of Marlene and Carlos Carrillo of Sims, Noell is an A-honor-roll student at Hunt, where is a member of the Spanish Club and Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE). He and his family moved from Winthrop Harbor, Ill., near Chicago, prior to the school year.
Noell trains and competes with the Arrichion Wrestling Club in Raleigh and also participates in National Hispanic Institute’s national debating program.
