Thomas & Farris Student-Athlete of the Week: Josh King
Josh King led the Fike High varsity boys basketball team to its first 3-A Big East Conference win in nearly two years Friday at Southern Nash, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Student-Athlete of the Week.
Josh, a 6-foot-1 senior forward, had a game-high 16 points along with nine rebounds and five assists as the Golden Demons ended their 12-game conference drought with a 59-55 victory. In a loss at Rocky Mount earlier in the week, Josh led Fike with nine points and five rebounds.
Josh also plays football and runs track at Fike, where he is an honor-roll student with a 3.25 unweighted grade point average. He is a member of Club Unify at the school and has played AAU basketball for the Wilson Stars.
The son of Terri and Fred Murchinson of Wilson, Josh, who lives with his guardians Robert and Kim Barnes of Wilson, is undecided on his college plans but plans to major in criminal justice.
A member of Farmington Heights Church of Wilson, Josh has also volunteered his time with a food drive conducted by Wilson Praise and Worship Church.
