Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Corey Taylor

Corey Taylor helped his Beddingfield High varsity boys basketball team to a pair of key wins last week, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Corey, a senior guard, had a team-high 18 points as the Bruins picked up a 60-56 win at 2-A Eastern Plains Conference foe Farmville Central on Tuesday. His trio of 3-pointers sparked Beddingfield’s 26-point third quarter.

In the Bruins’ 48-38 win at home Thursday against county rival Hunt, Corey again led his team with 11 points to go along with six rebounds. The victory clinched the mythical Wilson County championship for Beddingfield.

Corey holds a 3.3 weighted grade point average at Beddingfield where honors courses are part of his workload.

The son of Chiquita Taylor of Wilson, Corey has been accepted to East Carolina University but hasn’t decided on his college plans. Corey, who has received basketball recruiting interest from Mount Olive College and N.C. Wesleyan College, hopes to major in engineering wherever he goes.

He played AAU basketball for the N.C. Celtics last summer.
