Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Matt Ballance

Senior left-handed pitcher Matt Ballance earned two wins as the Beddingfield High varsity baseball team opened its season with three victories last week, making him this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Matt went all seven innings in Beddingfield’s season-opening defeat of North Johnston on Tuesday, striking out six, and then picked up the win in relief in the Bruins’s conquest of Princeton on Friday. For the week, he batted .667 (6 of 9) with two RBIs and three runs scored.

At Beddingfield, where he maintains a 2.9 unweighted grade point average, Matt is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Future Farmers of America. He was also a member of the school’s swim team this year.

Matt hopes to continue his baseball career at Pitt Community College where he plans to major in either business administration or physical education.

The son of Jennifer and Tim Ballance of Black Creek, Matt is a member of the Black Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He and his family attend Daniel’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
