Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athletes of the Week: Madison and McKenzie Blackwell


Twin sisters McKenzie and Madison Blackwell continued to play key roles in the success of the Hunt High varsity girls soccer team last week, making them this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athletes of the Week.

McKenzie, a forward, had the Lady Warriors’ only goal in their 4-1 loss to Rocky Mount on Monday and also scored once as Hunt tied 3-A No. 4-state-ranked Jacksonville 2-2 on Friday at The Brittany VIII. Madison, a midfielder, scored a goal in the Lady Warriors’ 2-2 draw with 4-A No. 10-ranked Asheville Reynolds on Saturday at The Brittany.

With identical weighted grade point averages of 4.67, Madison and McKenzie are ranked second in the sophomore class at Hunt while taking pre-International Baccalaureate courses. Both girls are sophomore class officers and members of Student Government Association, Club Unify and Hunt Student Booster Club as well as the Hunt swim team.

The daughters of Kelly and Rusty Blackwell of Wilson, Madison and McKenzie play club soccer for Capital Area Soccer League Chelsea Ladies U16 team. They are soccer referees for Wilson Recreation Department and will serve as Governor’s Pages this summer.

Both girls are active in the youth group at St. Therese Catholic Church.
