Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week: Caroline Smith

Caroline Smith helped Beddingfield High to a pair of important varsity softball victories last week, making her this week’s Thomas & Farris Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Caroline, a freshman, went 5 for 5 with two triples and three RBIs as the Bruins remained unbeaten in the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference with a 17-0 win at Tarboro on Friday. She also pitched a complete-game two-hitter for her fourth victory without a loss, striking out eight and walking none.

On Thursday, the Lady Bruins toppled North Johnston from the ranks of the undefeated. In the 2-1 final in nine innings, Caroline drove in the tying run in the sixth and then singled and scored the go-ahead run in the ninth.

In a 5-4 loss to D.H. Conley on Tuesday, she went 2 for 4, giving her a .615 batting average for the week.

Caroline is an honor-roll student at Beddingfield where she also sings in the chorus.

The daughter of Bonnie Smith of Wilson and Mack Smith of Black Creek, Caroline plays basketball and volleyball at Beddingfield as well. She is a member of the Wilson County X-treme All-Stars softball team that will be gunning for its third Babe Ruth Softball World Series title this summer.

She attends New Life Church in Lucama.
