Following is a list of summer camps offered in Wilson this summer. Thanks to those who submitted their information.

Tang Soo Do Karate Center

All-day karate camp with daily martial arts lessons includes games and activities, arts and crafts, field trips and swimming. Uniform for new students also included.

Camp hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Registration fee is $25 per child; cost is $110 per child per week and $70 for a second child.

Save a Youth

S.A.Y. summer camp of St. John Community Development Corporation, is June 17-Aug. 16. Camp includes breakfast, lunch and snacks; academic enrichment; experienced teachers and tutors; arts and crafts; culinary arts; dance; field trips; and state of the art technology and equipment.

Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Cost is $35 per week with scholarships and multi-child family discounts available. Registration fee is $20.

Camp Sunshine

The Arc of Wilson County’s annual summer camp is June 17-21, 24-28 and July 8-12 and 15-19. Camp is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Camp is held at The SPOT and includes swimming, going to the park, arts and crafts, singing and field trips. Lunch is provided.

Cost is $25 per week.

Play Camp

Play Camp for ages 2-4 is offered Monday-Friday from June 10 to Aug. 16 with no camp the week of July 1. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; pack a light lunch. This pre-school camp offers bike riding, crafts, snacks, movie time, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, train rides and more at Recreation Park.

Campers must register in weekly increments. City resident fee is $50 per week. Non-city resident fee is $75 per week.

Summer Time Fun

Summer Time Fun for ages 5-12 is offered Monday-Friday from June 10-Aug. 9 with no camp the week of July 1. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The camp offers a structured day of fun and learning at Reid Street Center. Daily activities include outdoor free play, team sports, group game time, swim lessons, educational field trips, movies and more.

City resident fee is $50 per week. Non-city resident fee is $75 per week.

Sports Camp

Sports Camp is for ages 5-8 (junior varsity) and 9-12 (varsity). Camp is June 10-Aug.16 with no camp the week of July 1. Hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Campers spend the day at the Recreation Park Center with daily activities including mat ball, army football, soccer, baseball, pickle ball, chicken ball, field trips and more.

City resident fee is $80 per week. Non-city resident fee is $120 per week.

Williams Day Camp

Williams Day Camp is for ages 5-12 and is offered June 10-Aug. 16 with no camp the week of July 1. Hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Williams Day Camp is located on Mount Vernon Drive and features one of our area’s only outdoor camps. Camp features hands on activities with insects, fish, reptiles and various other outdoor wildlife.

City resident fee is $80. Non-city resident fee is $120 per week.

Recreation Paper Chasin’

Recreation Paper Chasin’ is a new camp for ages 13-15 and is offered June 10-14, July 8-12 and Aug. 5-9. Hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 to 5 p.m. Camp’s focus is helping teens get a summer job. Participants will travel to various locations in order to learn how to complete daily tasks expected by many employers.

City resident fee is $30 per week; non-city resident fee is $45 per week.

Baking Workshops

Baking workshops are offered June 29, July 20 and Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for ages 8-12. Each camp will focus on a delicious treat. Instructor is Meagan Culkin, owner of Sweet Creations.

City resident fee is $15 per workshop; non-city resident fee is $20 per workshop.

Challenger British Soccer Camps

Challenger British Soccer Camps are offered June 10-14 for ages 3-16. Camp will be held primarily at J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex. To register, visit www.challengersports.com. Fees range from $79 to $179. Host-A-Coach scholarships available.

Gymnastics Camp

Gymnastics camp is July 22-26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 5-12.

City resident fee is $65 per week. Non-city resident fee is $97 per week.

Golf Camp

Golf Camp is for ages 5-8 and 9-12 the week of June 24-28. Camp features indoor and outdoor class to teach young golfers golf terminology and various skills.

Reid Street Pool

Youth morning classes for ages 4 and up, Monday-Friday are offered in four sessions:

Session 1: June 10-21

Session 2: June 24-July 5 (No class July 4)

Session 3: July 8-19

Session 4: July 22-Aug. 2

Class is 10:30 to 11:10 a.m. and 11:15-11:55 a.m.

 

Recreation Park Pool

• Tot lessons are offered for ages 2-3. One parent/ adult must be in the water with each participant at all times.

Session 1: June 4-July 2 (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

Session 2: July 10-Aug. 8 (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

Class time is 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.

• Youth morning classes for ages 4 and up, Monday-Friday are offered in four sessions:

Session 1: June 10-21

Session 2: June 24-July 5 (No class July 4)

Session 3: July 8-19

Session 4: July 22-Aug. 2

Class times are 9-9:40 a.m., 9:45-10:25 a.m. and 10:30-11:10 a.m.

• Night classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Youth ages 4 and up, class times are 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. and 7:15 to 7:55 p.m.

THE SPOT

The SPOT’s summer camp is June 10-Aug. 9 and is in two sessions. Each session is $185. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There’s also a half-day sports and fitness camp Aug. 12-16 for $35 for grades K-8.

Y Camps

Y camps are held at the Y pool clubhouse at 2229 Chelsea Drive from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost for members is $55 per week; cost for non-members is $70 per week.

Members will receive a $5 discount if registering by April 30.

• Scamper Camp is for age 4 through completed kindergarten. Must be potty-trained. Animal Mania (June 17-21), Rescue Heroes (July 1-5), Splish Splash (July 15-19).

• Y in the Woods is for children who have completed first through third grade. Campfire Camp (June 24-28), Survivor Week (July 8-12), Water Works (July 22-26).

Swim Lessons

Group lessons are $35 per session for members, $50 for non-members.

Session one is June 4-27 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Session two is July 2-25 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Session three is July 8-18 on Monday through Thursday mornings.

Private lessons are available and will be scheduled with the swim instructor to take place Monday through Thursday mornings. Cost is $20 for 30 minutes for members and $30 for 30 minutes for non-members.

YouthFit

Provides elementary-aged children with a great workout through fitness games and use of strength and cardio equipment.

Teen Synrgy

Provides teens with a great workout while they elevate their heart rate and challenge their muscles.

Creative Dreams Summer Camp

Camp operates Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1006 Academy St. There is no charge, but there is a $10 registration fee. Open house/ registration is May 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. It’s first-come, first-served. There are 85 slots to fill.

Baseball Camps

Day Camp for ages 5-10 is June 24-27 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Specialty Camps (ages 8 to high school seniors) include Hitting Camp June 24-25, 9 a.m.-noon; Infield/Outfield Defense Camp June 26-27, 9 a.m.-noon; and Pitcher/Catcher Camp June 26-27, 9 a.m.-noon.

Cost is $125 for day camp and $75 for each specialty camp.

A $50 deposit must accompany application.

 

Basketball Fundamentals Camp

Two sessions are offered: June 17-20 and June 24-27. Camp is Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and is for boys and girls ages 5-16 (excluding high school graduates). Cost is $105 per session.

 

Basketball Shooting/Offensive Skills Camp

Two sessions are offered: June 17-20 and June 24-27. Camp is Monday-Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and is for boys and girls ages 10-16 (excluding high school graduates). Cost is $75 per session.

 

Golf Camp

June 10-13 at Willow Springs Country Club. Morning camp is 9 a.m. to noon; all day camp is 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

 

Soccer Camps

High school camp is July 20-21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Youth Evening Camp I is June 17-20 from 5 to 8 p.m. and is for ages 5-13.

Youth Evening Camp II is July 22-25 from 5 to 8 p.m. and is for ages 5-13.

Tennis Camp

Camp is June 17-20 with ages 5-11 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and ages 12-17 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $100.

Junior tennis clinics to be offered starting the week of April 22. Beginner on Monday and Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m. Intermediate/advanced on Monday and Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. Cost is $10.

Health and Safety Exploration Camp

Get instruction in chemistry, biology, nursing, surgical techniques and fire safety to better understand allied health, science and safety fields. Middle school students will be taught the basic skills used in health care fields and CPR training. Camp is Aug. 5-8 and will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at WCC. Science Adventure Camp

Camp encourages a greater interest in science and science careers among middle school students. Students will be exposed to a variety of hands-on activities and field experiences in chemistry, ecology, environmental sciences, renewable energy, recycling, composting, meterology and weather. Camp is July 22-25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at WCC. Includes trips to the Wilson area farmers market, Toisnot Park and Bridegstone Americas Wildlife Habitat Preserve. Cost is $150 and includes lunch. The Caged Bird Sings

Inspired by author Maya Angelou’s book, students ages 10-13 participating in this camp will explore the symbolism of birds, the possibility of flight, and the meaning of creativity. Participants will make a hand-built earthenware bird house, write poetry and perform with their birds at the end of the week. Camp runs from June 10-15, 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $75. Give Yourself Wings

This camp will be fun, whimsical and full of inspiration. The power of positive messages and affirmations will be used as students ages 6 to 9 will make a wing-shaped relief wall tile filled with inspirational words. Words will be used to create a positive short story to be performed at the end of the week. Camp runs from June 17-22, 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $75. Camp is held at the Wilson Arts Center. This day camp at Megan’s Academy of Dance focuses on fun, food and fitness and includes Zumba designed for children. Each session will have a different theme, so children will have a new experience each time.

Little Starz Camp is for ages 5-7, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Session start dates: June 10, July 8, July 29. Fee is $100.

Big Starz Camp is for ages 8-11, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. Session start dates: June 17, July 15, Aug. 5. Fee is $100.

Rock Starz Camp is for ages 12-14, Monday-Friday, 2-4 p.m. Session start dates: June 10, July 8, Aug. 5. Fee is $75.

Megan’s Academy of Dance

Megan’s Academy of Dance offers summer dance camps for all ages and levels.

July 8-11: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 8 and older. Cost is $150.

July 15-18: 10 a.m. to noon for ages 3 and 4. Cost is $50.

July 15-18: 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 5-7. Cost is $80.

July 29-Aug. 2: 1 to 4 p.m. Summer Intensive for ages 11 and older. Cost is $120.

Camp will include a time of dance instruction as well as arts, crafts and fun events. Younger dancers will grow in their knowledge of technique and dance skills. More experienced dancers will be offered more challenging master classes.

Dance Camps

Toe 2 Toe Dance Camp for ages 3-11 includes dance, crafts, choreography and technique.

Ages 3-5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 24-28, July 15-19 and Aug. 5-9.

Ages 6-8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 17-21, July 8-12 and Aug. 5-9.

Ages 9-11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 17-21, July 8-12 and Aug. 5-9 (3 to 6 p.m.)

Cost is $125. Register by June 15.

 

Jazz Camp

Jazz Camp is for sixth grade and up and includes jazz, contemporary and technique. All competitive dancers are required to attend one.

June 24-28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m or July 15-19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost is $175. Register by June 15.

 

Ballet Camp

Ballet Camp is for sixth grade and up and includes classical ballet, technique and pointe (if applicable). All competitive dancers are required to attend at least one.

June 17-21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or July 8-12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost is $175. Register by June 15.

 

Hip Hop Camp

Hip Hop Camp is for sixth grade and up and includes hip hop choreography, technique and break dancing. All competitive dancers are required to attend.

July 15-19 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Cost is $100. Register by July 1.

 

Tap Camp

Tap Camp is for sixth grade and up and includes tap choreography and technique. All competitive dancers are required to attend.

June 24-28 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Cost is $100. Register by June 15.

 

Cheerleading Camp

Learn cheers, chants, stunts, dance and tumbling.

Ages 5-8 from 6 to 8 p.m. June 24-28

Ages 9-11 from 6 to 8 p.m. July 15-19

Cost is $100. Register by June 15.

 

Mommy & Me

Dance class for 2-year-olds and a helper. Once a week for six weeks. In-house recital at the end of the six weeks.

Mondays at 10:30 a.m. starting June 10.

Fridays at 6:30 p.m. starting June 14.

Cost is $55 a session.

 

Tumble Camp

Learn to tumble and gain strength and flexibility. Competitive dancers are encouraged to attend.

Ages 3-5 from 9 to 10 a.m. June 24-28 and Aug. 5-9

Ages 6-8 from 10 to 11 a.m. June 24-28 and Aug. 5-9

Ages 9-11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 17-21 and July 15-19

Ages 12 and older from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 8-12 and Aug. 5-9

"Nutcracker” auditions

Open for anyone of all dance abilities at Toe 2 Toe Dance. Ages 4 and up.

June 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. and June 13 from 5 to 7 p.m.

 

"Nutcracker” Camp

This is a private camp. For "Nutcracker” cast members only. Must have previously auditioned. Aug. 12-16.

Hunter’s Dance

 

Broadway Bound

June 10-14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 to 4 p.m.

Jeremy Tucker will work on music, dance and drama as the students re-enact scenes from Broadway shows. Boys and girls of all ages can attend.

Cost is $150.

 

Disney Princess Camp

June 17-21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sign up your little princess so she can live out her dream of being a different Disney princess each day: Cinderella, Aerial, Jasmine, Belle, Sleeping Beauty and Mulan. Includes dance, crafts, tumbling and games.

Camp fee is $140.

 

Spaaah-Tastic Tumble Camp

June 17-21 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Nothing like a little "spa” treatment — manicure, pedicure, facial — mixed in with tumble to make a girl feel special and pampered. Camp fee is $125.

 

Angelina Ballerina Camp

June 24-28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Start with storytime by reading an "Angelina Ballerina” book and then follow up by working on the same things as Angelina. Learn parts from the different ballets that Angelina dances to in her books. Includes crafts and tumbling.

Camp fee is $140.

 

Cheerific Tumble Camp

June 24-28 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Learn a cheer, chant, stunt routine in separate groups throughout the week to use in the friendly competition on the last day. High school cheerleaders will teach the cheers and help prepare the girls for the competition.

Camp fee is $125.

 

Boys Will Be Boys

June 24-28 from 1 to 4 p.m.

This all boys camp is for the boys who would love to learn to tumble. Some of the older male tumblers will help with this camp to demonstrate all that boys can learn through tumble. Everything will be geared towards boys even the crafts, games, etc.

Camp fee is $125.

 

Summer Dance Intensive

June 24-28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginner level

June 24-28 from 1 to 4 p.m. intermediate level

July 15-19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginner level

July 15-19 from 1 to 4 p.m. intermediate level

Aug. 12-16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. advanced level

This is a very intense camp with Barrett Hildebrand focusing on technique, strength building, turns, leaps and everything needed to become the best dancer possible. Required for CDW Dancers but open to all dancers who want to progress and become stronger dancer. Dancers will be given the best level to attend at sign up.

Camp fee is $200.

 

Tap Camp

Aug. 12-16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginner level

Aug. 12-16 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. intermediate/advanced level

Tap Camp is required for CDW Tap Team Dancers and Elite Tap Students. This camp allows instructor Tonya Sorenson to share new tap combinations and routines. All new Elite Tap students need to attend the camp so everyone is starting on the same level. Camp fee is $100.

 

"Grinch” Choreography Camp

Aug. 12-16

For anyone interested in performing in "The Grinch” production being performed Dec. 12-15. "The Grinch” sign ups will be held between May 15-30. "Grinch” Camp is held between 4 and 9 p.m. since some schools are back in session. Each dance rehearses one hour each day of that week.

Dance Studio "B”

All five-day camps are 9 a.m. to noon with a performance for family and friends on the final day for $125. Family discounts offered.

 

I’m Flying!

June 17-21: Join Peter Pan and his friends as they flip flop and fly through the air to Neverland. Explore the world of pirates, pixies and the Lost Boys through music, dance, tumbling, crafts, videos and more.

 

"Grease” is The Word

July 8-12: Come party in Wonderland with Alice and her friends. Sing and dance to the Disney classics. Enjoy crafts, videos and a daily tea party.

 

Bring It On

July 15-19: Shake, rattle and roll your way through this cheer camp designed to prepare you for fall tryouts. Learn stunts, jumps and pom routines.

 

Fancy Nancy Dance Camp

July 22-26: Campers will learn a few French words, create fancy crafts and learn fancy moves in fancy dress up clothes.

 

Go, Go, Go Joseph!

July 29-Aug. 2: Come celebrate and dance to the music of "Joseph and the Amazing, Technicolor Dreamcoat.” We expect this summer’s community show to be just as popular as the past two.

 

Summer Session

For middle school to adult students in June and July. One-hour classes offered in ballet, tap, contemporary, hip hop and jazz.

 

"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”

Sign up to be part of what we hope will be Wilson’s newest tradition, a fall production of the popular show. Choreography camps will be held the first two weeks in August. Dancers will be separated according to ability level and genre with auditions being held for the main rolls.

Learning Art is Smart

June 10-14 for ages 30 months to 4 years. Cost is $85. Special emphasis on color and texture. Use of all materials, including the home "no-no’s.” Fun, detailed clean-up.

 

Under the Sea

June 24-28 for ages 5-7. Cost is $85. Transform Sponge Blob into something cool. Make a mermaid/merman mobile and a seashell habitat. Paint rainbow fish.

 

Go Green

July 8-12 for ages 8-10. Cost is $85. Reuse and recycle anything from everything. Zap it with splatter paint or glue it with jewels. Do duck tape. Finish with totally awesome t-shirts.

 

Make it, Shake It, Play It

July 15-20 for ages 10 and up. DeeAnn Macomson joins Alison Hesmer in teaching this class for ages 10 and up. Cost is $100. Make musical instruments and join in the chorus. Includes a field trip to hear steel drums Saturday morning.

 

Change the World With Color

July 22-26 for ages 11-13. Cost is $85. Create and illustrate a polished, beautifully handmade journal. Learn about great artists. Paint a large canvas.

 

Painting and Drawing

Classes occur weekly in the afternoon. Take one or two or take all eight sessions. All age groups, including teens. $18 per class or $130 for the summer.

Subjects include people, animals, landscape, seascape, still life and your choice.

For ages 5 to 7

• Carnivore Camp is June 10-14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $65 members/$75 non-members. Carnivores are all around us, from the smallest insect to the largest mammal. And what about that seemingly harmless plant — how is it possible it could be a carnivore? 

• You Spin Me Round is July 22-26 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $65/$75. North Carolina experiences two amazing weather phenomenon, tornadoes and hurricanes. Campers will learn all about how these storms happen and what we can do.

 

For ages 8-12 years

• Bead Yourself is June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $130/$145. Discover how Native Americans recorded history without ever picking up a pen. Learn more about yourself when you are challenged to design a meaningful pattern and create a one-of-a-kind bracelet on your own handmade loom.

• Pirates! is Aug. 5-9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $130/$145. Each camper will take on the identity of an actual, historic pirate. They will create their own pirate cove, make pirate ships and flags, engage in a mutiny and in pirate battles. Treasure will be hidden and found.

 

For ages 8-10

• STEM camp: Size Makes a Difference is July 15-19 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $65/$75. STEM is Science Technology Engineering and Math. Campers will learn about nanoscale science and engineering through hands-on activities. This camp will be in conjunction with a traveling mini-exhibit, Nano, which will be at the museum this summer.

 

For ages 10-12

• Spinning and Weaving is July 29–Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $65/$75. Campers will learn how to spin yarn with a drop spindle and will use that yarn to weave their own fabric on a backstrap loom and on the museum’s full-size, 100-year old barn loom. The campers will receive their own spindle, and will take home yarn they have spun and fabric they have woven.

• STEM Computer camp: Raspberry Pi is Aug. 12-16, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $65/$75 plus a $50 supply fee. Raspberry Pi is a small, credit-card sized computer that was created to teach computer science and language. Campers will learn how to write computer code in Python and Scratch and will use these languages on the Pi to make a digital clock, make a animated cartoon, run a robot, and create a computer game. The campers will keep their Raspberry Pi at the end of camp.

• Cooking with Ms. Kris is June 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 7-11. Cost is $7.

• Field trip to Aurora Fossil Museum archeological dig and ferry ride is June 19 for ages 7 and up. Cost if $5 plus spending money.

• Boys Day In is June 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $10.

• Tour of WRAL television station is June 26 for ages 9 and up. Cost is $5.

• Summer Days at Lazy O Farm is June 28 for ages 8-11. Cost $15.
