Now Playing: Family helps with new Home
Tuesday, August 05, 2008
Some days are better than others for Scotty Etheridge.
Scotty, 45, has faced difficulties throughout his life because of his height and stature, standing as an adult only 4 foot 10 inches tall and weighing about 87 pounds.
Because of his abnormal stature, Scotty today suffers from near deafness in both ears, neuropathy and, more recently, diabetes. He is unable to work, has limited use of his legs and must take insulin medication and diabetic pills daily.
So a year and a half ago, his brother Dean, 41, started working to fund and build an apartment for Scotty so he could more easily care for him. Seeking out donations, building material and help with construction, Dean planned to turn an old barn in his back yard into an apartment for Scotty and his daughter Kayla, 11.
Scotty and Kayla moved into their new home in early July.
“I like it,” Scotty said of his new home.
