Now Playing: Fell in love with firefighting while fighting leukemia Wednesday, December 31, 2008 At 6-years old, David Sanchez fell in love with firefighting, and at the age of seven he was diagnosed with leukemia. Now 11, he is in the third grade at Bailey Elementary. David is currently fighting a third occurrence of the disease by being admitted to Pitt Memorial Hospital for chemotherapy treatments every few weeks. He first fell in love with firefighting after attending a summer camp at Bailey Elementary School under the direction of Terry Strickland, a teacher’s assistant at the school.
