Checkpoints nab DWI drivers, and a lot more Monday, August 11, 2008
Wilson -- A three-and-a-half hour DWI operation conducted by the N.C. Highway Patrol, the Wilson County Sheriff's Office and the Wilson Police Department Friday night resulted in a total of 72 citations. The initiative was part of the N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program. The date 08-08-08 was designated "a good day to send a message" to citizens who decided to drive while impaired because the legal limit to drive after consuming alcohol is .08. The first checkpoint was conducted on Ward Boulevard in front of the Coastal Plains Law Enforcement Center. It began around 9 p.m., and within a matter of minutes, approximately 20 cars were waiting in line to pass inspection.
